Senior Engineer - Mechanical - UK Wide

We are looking to strengthen our Engineering team with a Senior Mechanical Engineer based at a suitable location within the UK,, with flexible working available.

At MWH Treatment, our Mechanical Engineers play a critical role in developing innovative, efficient and reliable mechanical solutions that help deliver safer, smarter and more resilient water services for our customers and communities.

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design activities across major projects, delivering robust, buildable solutions that meet client requirements, regulatory standards and long-term asset performance objectives.

What you'll be doing

• Lead mechanical design tasks and packages to agreed technical standards, budgets and programmes.
• Develop mechanical designs, equipment specifications, plant layouts and technical documentation that support safe, efficient and reliable asset performance.
• Produce cost-effective mechanical solutions that consider construction, commissioning, operational and whole-life costs.
• Review and assure mechanical design outputs within your area of authority, ensuring quality and compliance with company and industry standards.
• Coordinate mechanical design activities with Process, EICA, Civil, Structural, Digital and Commissioning teams to support integrated project delivery.
• Identify and manage technical risks, design issues and opportunities for optimisation throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support the design and selection of mechanical equipment, including pumps, pipework, valves, treatment plant equipment and associated systems.
• Mentor junior engineers, graduates and apprentices, sharing knowledge and supporting technical development across the team.
• Build strong working relationships with clients, discipline leads, project teams, suppliers and site teams.

Essential

• Strong experience in mechanical design within the water, wastewater, utilities or a similarly regulated engineering environment.
• Good understanding of water and sewage treatment processes and the mechanical systems that support them.
• Experience producing and reviewing mechanical calculations, equipment specifications, technical reports, schedules and design documentation.
• Ability to develop practical, economic and buildable mechanical solutions that consider safety, sustainability, operability and whole-life cost.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and supporting project delivery.
• Experience leading, checking or mentoring engineers within a mechanical or related engineering discipline.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution, ideally Chartered or working towards Chartership.
• Relevant Mechanical Engineering degree preferred, or a minimum HND in a related discipline.
• Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and commercially.
• Computer literacy and a full UK driving licence.
