To continue with our growth plans for 2023 and beyond we are searching for a SuDS Engineer Graduate to join our Professional Development Programme for our autumn 2023 intake, based in Peterborough for our @one Alliance.   

The @one Alliance is a collaborative organisation of consultants and contractors working together to deliver more than half of Anglian Waters capital investment programme.

What will you be doing as our new SuDS Engineering Graduate?

As our new SuDS Engineer Graduate, you’ll be supported and guided from experienced SuDs engineers and learn to be an expert, whilst supporting the design and Solutions teams with the delivery of projects associated with surface water management.

You’ll work closely with SuDS engineers and hydraulic modellers to liaise with portfolio solution managers (PSMs), during Stage 1, and assist with investigations and data gathering to support the ROV process and helping to develop innovative conceptual surface water management solutions. You’ll support with producing of deliverables during stages 2 and 3 in connection with the detailed design of SuDS solutions and providing cross discipline support. And during Stage 4, will provide support to the construction team.   

You’ll be offered opportunities to gain the experience necessary to achieve chartered status in your chosen area such as site experience, commercial exposure and access to digital tools to improve the quality of engineering design.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to the SuDS engineers, technical managers and PSMs assisting with gathering relevant Stage 1 information to support the ROV process.
  • Assist in arranging site investigations, surveys and the gathering of utility data and attend site visits to gather and record data
  • To help develop innovative conceptual SuDS options for presentation at Preferred Option Selection ROV meetings, liaising with specialists e.g. hydraulic modellers, landscape architects, as required
  • Produce SuDS technical deliverables including, but not limited to, sketches, drawings, specifications, CDM pre-construction information and design risk registers, hydraulic and carbon calculations
  • Undertake initial hydraulic calculations for SuDS options, whilst working with the design team, PSMs and internal/external stakeholders to examine and understand viability of SuDS options.
  • Liaise closely with landscape architects in their production of SuDS deliverables.
  • Produce safe designs in accordance with CDM Regulations and Codes of Practice.
  • Participate in regular internal/external stakeholder engagement and meetings.

Possessing strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills to complement your proficiency in IT packages, you’ll relish solving complex engineering challenges and be motivated to learn and develop new ways of thinking.

About You

Qualifications

  • A degree in water/wastewater process science/engineering related subject, have the understanding of hydrology and environment sciences with a keen passion to pursue a career in SuDs Engineering.
  • Successful candidates will need to be flexible and willing to spend time in other offices and sites. This is to gain a full understanding of new projects and different clients, which will provide fresh experiences and support your development.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal are essential, and you must be able to work well within a team and independently. You will be self – motivated, flexible and reliable with good problem-solving skills.
  • You will also have a strong client service focus and excellent organisational skills with the ability to multi-task. Excellent computer skills and a good understanding of Microsoft Office are essential.
  • Candidates will also need to have a full UK driving license or in the process of taking their driving test.
